This boosts performance up to the 85-90fps range, which is a lot considering Mega darts weigh quite a bit and carry on quite far. The TS on the other hand is just like any stock Nerf dart blaster now, but it only takes about 30 minutes to open it, open the plunger tube, drop in a 9kg spring from AK Blaster Mod, and close it back up again. The Pump SG has a decent plunger tube in it, and I believe that if it's brassed with an inline clip it'll get competitive performance with regular or half-length darts, but that's a bit of work to get that happening. The Roughcut is great for now but is a little difficult to get serious performance out of with 4.5kg springs mine gets about 80fps, with 6kg springs it would probably get 85-90 and require metal gear replacements, and if you want more power and heavier springs, you'd need to do away with the pump prime entirely as it won't be able to support the force, and convert it to a rear direct prime instead. The Takedown is powerful and great for competitive, but will be difficult for him now as a seven year old. If you're looking to go for something competitive for the future, I'd still argue that the TS is somewhat future-proof: Other single-shot blasters reload much faster and in fewer steps, I can imagine it'd be frustrating for a child to spend more time reloading than firing.

The Pump SG is considered a generally inferior blaster because it's a four-step reload (pump back, open breech, insert dart, close breech on forward pump) for a single shot. Good shotgun feel, especially with the internal magazine, but it might be a little bit bulky. In that case, if they like Fortnite then the Fortnite TS wouldn't be a bad pickup if you can find one for a decent price. That said, I've never used one because Australia sucks, so if you have firsthand experience with comparing Rival to Elite in terms of spring weight, use that to guide your decision.Įdit: didn't see your edit until after I posted my comment. Rival blasters shoot harder and have heavier springs to make that happen, so the extra effort needed to prime them might be a little too much for someone so young. They're the same theoretically, but the Warden needs to be handled with cotton wool to avoid breaking the internals because it's poorly made, and I wouldn't trust a seven year old to be overly careful with it.Ī Rival Takedown on the other hand might be a little difficult. If you can't find a Roughcut, do not buy a Warden. Mine has 4.5kg springs (stock are about 2.8kg) but it's still smoother and lighter than anything else I have that has those same 4.5kg springs. Shoots two darts at a time, easy to front-load, and the geared prime makes it very smooth. I'll always recommend the Roughcut as that's both.

Most mod parts can be bought online at speciality Nerf shops that offer specific mods for specific Nerf models.Shotgun as in profile, or shotgun as in shooting multiple projectiles at a time? While brass is the gold standard, PETG can be as good and feels lighter. When you change barrel specs, you will mostly use PETG, PVC, or brass.

NERF STAR WARS BLASTER MOD HOW TO
Here’s the most basic mod on how to enhance your Nerf barrel. A simple modification is to use a brass barrel to fit your darts. The plastic barrel diameter is usually larger than the dart’s diameter, so replacing the plastic barrel with a tighter barrel increases power. A typical barrel is made from plastic and doesn’t allow air pressure to build up, so it doesn’t maximize a dart’s range. Most Nerf mods are done on barrels to increase the force of each blaster shot. The goal is to be able to increase improve power so that you can shoot darts further.īefore attempting to do your first mod, it would be more helpful to learn about Nerf’s inner workings and the roles the different parts play. Barrel modification (mod) is just one of many things that you can tinker with to improve your Nerf gun. One of the special reasons that Nerf blasters continue to be popular, is that it can be customized for added fun.
